I’m happy to announce Whapow! LLC’s latest gadget: Today’s Reason to Play Hooky.

Sometimes, you just can’t think of a good excuse to skip work or school, so we’re here to help. The gadget serves up a new excuse each day of the year, mostly official holidays as you can see from the screenshot.

Yeah, this is very similar to Today’s Reason to Drink, though there are some differences in the holidays displayed. Plus, this version is much more family-friendly. Note that Today’s Reason to Drink doesn’t appear in the Google Directory unless you specifically search for it, likely due to its drinking theme.

Anyway, click on the screenshot to add it! I doubt you’ll regret it.

I just released the initial version last night, so it may come to a shock to all eight unique visitors (according to Google Analytics) that there’s a new version already. However, I’m a big believer in release early, release often. (Of course, that’s not always doable with a one-man team; yet, it’s oftentimes more doable.)

Anyway, the new version of the gadget adds information about the primary pollutant in the air. Currently in Boston, for example, it’s particulate matter. Who knew there was tree pollen floating around in winter?

If you already have the gadget installed, then it’ll update automatically. If you don’t have it, then what are you waiting for? Go install it on iGoogle!

Something that always drove me nuts was that there was no pollen count gadget for iGoogle. What about us allergy sufferers?

I just finished writing this after AccuWeather granted me access to their API. Please try adding it to iGoogle or adding it to your web page, and let me know what you think!

I just spent some time creating a new Google Gadget. This one allows you to search using Blingo from your iGoogle page. That way, you don’t miss out on a chance at winning! The gadget is very compact and allows you to use web, image, and advanced searches with a user preference setting to set the default search type. Just click on the image to add it!

The ever popular Today’s Reason to Drink, which currently gets about 1.6 million hits per week, is now available on Facebook, too! As of May 26, 2008, it has 790 users and climbing. You, too, can add it to your Facebook profile, so all your friends know exactly what Today’s Reason to Drink is.
